Dear Neighbors,
As we move forward through 2023, I am proud of the great progress we have made here in the Town of Pawling, I am excited for the projects we have planned for this coming year. In addition to this, I wanted to bring to your attention something of great concern to me and what very well could effect every homeowner here in Pawling.
Governor Hochul announced in her State of the State address a plan that would impose housing on the Town of Pawling, and very well could be approved in her 2024 budget. The Governor’s Housing Compact will override local zoning decisions by essentially centralizing all zoning decisions in Albany, despite what local government and local zoning has to say. This “one size fits all” approach does not work on behalf of those who live here and simply cannot work here in Pawling. “Home Rule” authority allows small communities, like ours, to look out for the unique needs of their Towns and if the Governor’s Housing Compact moves forward, we will lose much of that authority to protect you, the residents of Pawling. We would have to re-write our Town’s Zoning Code and disregard our own Comprehensive Plan, the Town Board and our Town land use boards would have limited ability to consider impacts to the environment, setbacks, density, parking, schools, emergency services, water and sewer, etc...
The Town of Pawling Town Board is in search of interested candidates to join the new Inter-Municipal Ethics Board (IMEB). The Town has joined the neighboring municipalities of Beekman, Dover, East Fishkill, and the Village of Pawling to establish this Board. The IMEB would oversee and make determinations on any possible ethics violations that could occur within these 5 municipalities. Any potential members would have to be a Town of Pawling resident of 18 years of age, in order to be appointed as the Town’s representative.
Interested candidates are asked to submit their resume, cover letter, and references to Town Legislative Aide Joseph D. Cavaccini at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and or to 160 Charles Colman Boulevard, Pawling, NY 12564.
As we enter the New Year, I would like to take the time to reflect on what we have accomplished, together, as a community. First, I’d like to thank our amazing team of department heads, employees, and elected officials for all that they do in offering valued services to our residents; they truly keep this government functioning to the highest standards of efficiency. I continue to have the upmost appreciation for our residents, either Town or Village, you support our programs, parks, and services. Whether you are an annual permit holder at the Transfer Station, or at the beach at Lakeside Park, thank you for making use of all our great Town has to offer...

On November 29, 2022 the last weir boards at the Whaley Lake Dam were removed for the season. The lake level was at the bottom of the lowest weir board. Water release valve has been closed and the water will go over spillway naturally.
Please note, that the Pawling Town Board is now accepting applications to be considered for appointment to the Zoning Board of Appeals.
All applicants must be at least 18 years old and a Pawling resident to apply. The Pawling Town Zoning Board of Appeals consists of five members and is supported by a full time Secretary. The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA), is an administrative/quasi-judiciary body that acts as a buffer between the property owner or aggrieved applicant, and the Town Zoning Code.
Please send all resumes, cover letters, and three (3) references to Joseph D. Cavaccini at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or via mail to Town Hall, 160 Charles Colman Boulevard, Pawling NY, 12564.
