Town of Pawling Transfer Station New Rules & Regulations Effective December 6, 2023

2025 Transfer Station Permits will be available for purchase in the Supervisors Office beginning Monday, November 18, 2024.  2024 permits will remain valid until January 31, 2025.

 

Fees for 2025 will be $390.00 for first permit/$60.00 for second permit – first permit will be $250.00 after July 1st.

Days & Hours:  Monday & Thursday 6:00AM-4:00PM, Saturday 7:00AM-4:00PM

Purchase Requirements: Tax Bill, Pawling Central School District Tax Bill – Tenants are required to show a current lease agreement or utility bill.

Forms of Payment: The Town will accept cash, check or credit/debit card (credit card users will be charged an additional surcharge fee.)

All previous year’s permits MUST be removed from the vehicle.

Permits MUST be affixed to the passenger’s side rear window.

No annual transfer station permit will be issued to an applicant whose vehicle registration is in the name of a corporation, Limited Liability Company, d/b/a or other commercial or business entity without a waiver from the Town Supervisor.

A vehicle registration must be presented for the purchase of the permit and it must show the vehicle is registered to an individual paying taxes to Pawling, Pawling Central School District, or a tenant thereof. A second transfer station sticker will require the registration for that vehicle.

Household debris/trash only – NO commercial building debris/trash will be accepted.  NO paint. NO propane tanks.  Clean oil only.

No vehicle will be allowed into the transfer station after February 1st without a current year permit.

A maximum of two (2) permits per household are allowed to be purchased.

Only residential brush will be accepted – Maximum Size 4” wide by 10’ feet long.

Please note that if there is a holiday on a Monday, the transfer station will be open the following day. The Transfer Station will be open the day after Thanksgiving.

If the transfer station is closed due to snow, the transfer station will reopen the next day. Transfer Station closure will be at the discretion of the Highway Superintendent.

Anyone caught dumping building material will be subject to a fine of $500.00 and revocation of the transfer station permit.

The Town will allow all residents to bring metal to the transfer station without a sticker for recycling.

PLEASE RECYCLE every glass bottle, can and plastic container placed in the recycle bin – it saves money and the environment.

 

 

RECYCLE:

The following materials will be commingled in the receptacle provided –

          Glass Jars & Bottles:  Empty and rinse.  Discard caps and tops. Labels can be left on. 

          Do not break bottles.

          Tin & Aluminum Cans:  Rinse and remove labels.  Place lids in the can.

          Plastic Bottles: These items include milk jugs, laundry detergent

          bottles, soda bottles and other plastic bottles labeled only with a 1, 2, 3, 5 or 7 on the

          bottom.  Empty and rinse bottles, discard caps, and flatten if possible.

The following materials should be put into the trailers –

          Newspapers:  All clean, dry newspapers including all inserts, periodicals, magazines,

          and grocery bags.  Please tie with string or twine.  No plastic.

          Corrugated Cardboard:  Corrugated cardboard is brown with ridges in the middle. 

          Flatten or crush, dry, empty boxes, tie with string or twine.

The Transfer Station will also take –

          Appliances, swing sets, water tanks, stoves, washers, air conditioners, batteries and

sheet metal. Furniture, foam rubber and cribs should be placed in the large open dumpster.

          Motor oil ONLY should be placed in receptacle.  NO GASOLINE!

NOT RECYCLED:

Please place all items that are not recycled in your regular trash.

          Glass:  Dishes, drinking glasses, Pyrex, ceramic, window glass, mirrors, flower pots,

          light bulbs or headlights.

          Tin & Aluminum:  No paint, aerosol cans, pots, pans, fuel tanks, coat hangers, or other

          scrap metal items.

          Plastics:  Motor oil or transmission fluid bottles – even if they are made of P.E.T.E. or

          H.D.P.E/foam plastics, laundry baskets.

The following material is NOT recycled and should be disposed of properly –

          Newspapers: Dirty, soiled papers, phone books, text books, junk mail and bulk mail

          should be placed in regular trash. 

Plastic shopping bags should be placed in regular trash.

NOT RECYCLED:

Corrugated Cardboard:  Waxed cardboard, cardboard soiled with food such as cereal

boxes, shoe boxes, diaper boxes, and milk cartons should be placed in regular trash.

Tires can go into the tire trailer – Limit 4 per load.

NO CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS!

NO PAINT OF ANY KIND WILL BE ACCEPTED!

PLEASE DO NOT PUT GAS IN THE WASTE OIL TANK!
